Pairing a solar panel with your power station is genuinely one of the best upgrades you can make — it turns a station that eventually runs out into one that can keep going indefinitely, as long as the sun cooperates. Here's what actually matters before you buy one.
Every power station has a maximum solar input rating (for example, 220W or 500W). A panel rated higher than that limit won't charge any faster — the station simply caps the input at its own maximum. Conversely, a panel rated far below your station's limit will charge slower than the station is capable of. Check your station's solar input spec on its product page before choosing a panel size.
A "220W panel" doesn't deliver 220W all day — that number is its peak output under ideal, direct sunlight. Real-world output depends heavily on:
A realistic planning number for most of the continental US is 4-6 "full-sun equivalent hours" per day on a clear day — meaning a 220W panel might realistically contribute roughly 700-1,100Wh across a full day, not 220W × 24 hours.
Foldable panels (like our 110W, 160W, and 220W bifacial options) are built for portability — they pack down small for camping or van life and set up in seconds. Rigid panels are typically meant for a fixed, semi-permanent mount (like a cabin roof or a van rooftop) and tend to hold up better to long-term weather exposure in one spot. If you're moving locations often, foldable is almost always the better fit.
Solar charging is best thought of as a way to extend your runtime or top off during the day, not as an instant recharge. If you're relying on solar for genuine off-grid, multi-day use, plan around your average daily sun-hours rather than the panel's peak-output number stamped on the box — that's the number that will actually hold up when you're using it for real.
